Exclusive: PARASITE Filmmaker Bong Joon-ho Working on English-Language Film Based on CNN Story
As I wrapped up my interview with lauded Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho at Fantastic Fest (where we discussed his latest film, Parasite), I asked a pretty standard question: “What are you working on next?”
“I’m working on two movies,” the Snowpiercer/Okja helmer told me exclusively. “One is a horror movie set in Korea.
“The other is an English-language film that’s based on real events. I was inspired by an article from CNN in 2016… and that’s all I’m going to say for now,” he teased while flashing a coy smile.
Now it’s up to the Internet Hive-Mind to sleuth out what Bong’s upcoming project might be. While there were no small numbers of stories published by CNN in 2016, we can at least assume it as something to do with classism–as that seems to be a reoccurring theme throughout his filmography.
Stay tuned for my full interview with Bong Joon-ho about Parasite (his best film to date, in my opinion) coming soon. In the meantime, you can check out that film’s trailer and synopsis below.
Synopsis:
All unemployed, Ki-taek’s family takes peculiar interest in the wealthy and glamorous Parks for their livelihood until they get entangled in an unexpected incident.
What do you think, horror fans? Are you excited to hear that Bong Joon-ho is working on an English-language film that’s based on a true story? Do you have any theories regarding which CNN story from 2016 served as his inspiration? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram!
