COLLECTION COMPLETE Episode 3.7 “Collector to Creator”: Monster Maker Tom Devlin Talks PUPPET MASTER Replica
Gemr, the #1 app for collectors worldwide, takes a trip to Nevada in the latest episode of their docu-series Collection Complete (which takes an in-depth look into the lives of artists and the collections that fuel their work) and takes a look at the impact of Full Moon Features’ Puppet Master film series on prolific horror FX artist and collector Tom Devlin.
A deep dive into Devlin’s lifelong fascination with horror and fantasy, the episode focuses on his teenaged collection of Puppet Master toys originating from the Charles Band film series of the same name, to his later professional work as a creator of those very puppets for the Full Moon film Puppet Master X: Axis Rising, as well as screen accurate versions of the same for private collectors via his “Devlin’s PuppetFactory” imprint.
Pulling back the curtain on both his love of practical FX and his creation of full scale Puppet Master replicas, Devlin also discusses his preteen introduction to the world of the fantastical via East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania store Frazetta’s Fantasy Corner, and also teases a look at his very own Boulder City, Nevada roadside attraction, Tom Devlin’s Monster Museum (coming up in the November 14th episode of Collection Complete).
“I’m really proud to have created something for collectors, when I started out as a collector,” says Devlin in the episode, “because it’s my childhood dream, and because if I didn’t, twelve-year-old Tom would jump through a time portal and kick me in the nuts!”
Now in its third season, future installments of Collection Complete (a series which has collectively amassed over 630K views since it’s fall 2018 debut) are set to showcase the personal collections of Las Vegas’ “hauntreprenuer” Jason Egan, filmmaker and Jaws enthusiast Charles de Lauzirika, screen-used prop collector Sean Clark, and many more.
