Supernatural Thriller GEECHEE snags MANDY star Andrea Riseborough

One of our favorite up-and-coming actresses here at Dread Central is The Grudge and Mandy star Andrea Riseborough. And today we’ve learned via Deadline that Riseborough will lead the cast of debut writer-director Dubois Ashong’s oddly-titled supernatural thriller Geechee.

Riseborough will star as Wren, a successful New York scientist who decides to leave the city with her son to start life over in the remote Sea Islands off the Atlantic Coast. She quickly falls in love with the land and the people on the secluded island, but soon her world starts to unravel as the souls of the subjugated begin to haunt her dreams and her waking life.

Producer Glendon Palmer says of Riseborough’s casting, “From treatment to script, Dubois has created a terrific supernatural thriller that is only elevated by the addition of the amazing Andrea Riseborough.”

Palmer will produce along with Stuart Ford while Jermaine Johnson and Luke Maxwell of 3 Arts Entertainment serve as the film’s executive producers. Production is set for early 2020.

Andrea Riseborough can be seen next sharing the screen with Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver in The Eyes of My Mother writer-director Nicolas Pesce’s remake of The Grudge from producer Sam Raimi. That film is all set to be unleashed into a theater near you via Sony Pictures Releasing on January 3, 2020.
