Unused JOKER Bathtub Scene Too Insane For R-Rated Movie

As if you didn’t know, The Hangover director Todd Phillips’ Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix has gathered up its fair share of controversy since it was released last month.

And in a recent interview with the SBIFF Cinema Society, Phillips revealed that they shot a bathtub scene that, while not pornographic, was too insane to include in a R-rated movie.

Wow.

Specifically, Phillips says: “There were two or three [unused scenes] we shot, one that is amazing in a bathtub, but I don’t think we can actually include it in an R-rated movie and it’s not because it was pornographic, it was just insane.”

Watch the whole interview below.

Joker centers on a failed comedian who – forever alone in a crowd – seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks – the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as The Joker.

Todd Phillips (The Hangover) directed Joker from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Scott Silver based on DC Comics characters. Phillips also produced the film along with Bradley Cooper and Emma Tillinger Koskoff. It stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Frances Conroy.

Joker is now playing at a theater near you.
