Dick Hallorann Spin-Off HALLORANN In The Works

As we all know good and well by this point in time, Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep didn’t do so hot at the box-office last weekend.

And that’s a shame considering The Hollywood Reporter says that Warners Bros. had already struck a deal with Flanagan to script a spin-off centering on the character of Dick Hallorann – fittingly going by the working title, Hallorann.

For those of you that might not know – Dick Hallorann was the chef of the Overlook Hotel who shared the ability to “shine” with Danny. He appeared in both The Shining and Doctor Sleep.

He was played most famously by Scatman Crothers in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. Then by Melvin van Peebles in Mick Garris 1997 television adaptation of The Shining. And most recently by Carl Lumbly in Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep.

Now that Doctor Sleep underperformed at the box-office there is obviously a chance that this spin-off will never see the light of day. Fingers crossed it does though as I’d be down for more cinematic adventures with Hallorann – ghost or not.

Mike Flanagan directed Doctor Sleep from a screenplay he wrote himself based on the novel by Stephen King. Trevor Macy produced along with Jon Berg and the film starred Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, and Cliff Curtis.

It is now playing at a theater near you.
