Ms. BioGamer Girl is an annual beauty pageant held at the multi-fandom convention known as Con Nooga. Con Nooga invaded Chattanooga, Tennessee at the Chattanooga Convention Center and famous Chattanooga Choo Choo during the weekend of February 17-19, 2012.
The convention had many attending guests from the horror community including representatives from the horror publication Stiff Magazine, tons of guests from the Paranormal scene and the band Radio Cult whose song Saturday Midnight Double Feature has heavy horror influences.
Ricky Zhero of Radio Cult was also a judge for Ms. BioGamer Girl, and the band played LIVE once the pageant was finished.
Ms. BioGamer Girl took the spotlight early on Saturday February 18. The beauty pageant featured 15 different entries competing for the grand prize of a special shoot in the March 2012 issue of BioGamer Girl Magazine and a trip to next year’s Con Nooga as a special co-host of the pageant. The other prizes included a $60 giftcard to Gamestop, signed Night of the Living Dead prints, five free issues of the March issue of BioGamer Girl, custom t-virus replica (as see in Resident Evil) necklace, and other gaming merchandise. The pageant was hosted and judged by a panel that included BioGamer Girl CEO Amanda Dyar. The scary good time extended to more than just a beauty pageant, as there was a wedding proposal, a mother’s newborn on display and a special appearance by a frightening Splicer from the horror video game Bioshock.
The pageant consisted of multiple rounds that showcased the girls’ beauty as well as their special talents and knowledge of horror movies and video games. Some of the questions the girls were asked included, “What horror movie villain are you most like when you are angry and why?” and “What do you think is the biggest challenge that horror movie victims must overcome if they want to continue living in their movies today?” The girls were also asked to showcase their hidden skills during a talent portion of the pageant and to perform skits based off of video game characters personalities such as Resident Evil‘s Jill Valentine catching a cat during the zombie apocalypse.
Although many of the girls showcased their unique personalities by cosplaying some insane characters such as a vampire, an otherworldly ghost, a character from the video game The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and even a cohost dressed as Leeloo from The Fifth Element, in the end, Emlee Vassilos took home the grand prize, with Amber Teachey receiving runner up. These two accomplished actresses can now add this achievement to their resumes which already include starring in horror movies such as A Few Brains More: Summer of Blood and A Fistful of Brains.
Ms. BioGamer Girl was a huge success, and Amanda Dyar has already made plans for its return in 2013. You won’t want to miss the next horror and video game filled event!
