Modern-Day THE TURN OF THE SCREW Series Coming to Quibi

As if the upcoming season of Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor and Universal’s The Turning with Finn Wolfhard weren’t enough, today Deadline reports yet another adaptation of Henry James’ ghost story The Turn of the Screw is coming soon.

This time the classic novella will be adapted into a modern-day series for the upcoming short-subject streaming service Quibi.

This updated version of the haunting supernatural thriller comes to us from Sony Pictures Television and Under the Dome writer and co-executive producer Alexandra McNally.

Described as a twisty Gothic soap reimagined for modern times, the series follows a young Mexican-American nanny who is hired to care for two children at their summer home on an idyllic island in the Pacific Northwest. It seems like the perfect job, but things take a sinister turn when the nanny begins seeing ghosts and her grip on reality begins to blur. Moo-Haha.

McNally will executive produce with Josh Berman (Drop Dead Diva, CSI) and Chris King. The series was originally in development over at the teen-friendly channel Freeform.

The novella was perhaps best adapted in Something Wicked This Way Comes and The Great Gatsby director Jack Clayton’s 1961 British psychological horror film The Innocents starring Deborah Kerr, Michael Redgrave, and Megs Jenkins.

But who knows, maybe this series will be better. Slowly chuckles to himself like a Simpsons villain.
