This Day in Horror: Happy Birthday Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Born on this day in 1984: Mary Elizabeth Winstead
As a child, Winstead wanted to be a ballerina, but by the time she turned thirteen, she realized she was too tall. She turned to acting instead and has a nice selection of genre credits to her name.
One of her first film roles was in The Ring Two, as young Evelyn. Her first leading role was as Wendy in Final Destination 3. The writer of Final Destination 3, Glen Morgan, would later cast her in his 2006 remake of Black Christmas. Winstead appeared in the “Death Proof” segment of Grindhouse, directed by Quentin Tarantino. She played Dr. Kate Lloyd in the 2011 remake of The Thing; Mary Todd Lincoln in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter; and Michelle in 10 Cloverfield Lane.
On the small screen, Winstead starred in the short-lived CBS werewolf drama Wolf Lake; made-for-TV monster movie spoof Monster Island; The Returned, based on the French series about long-dead people who return to life; and BrainDead, as a documentary filmmaker who discovers that Washington, D.C. has been invaded by insect-like aliens and members of Congress have been infected.
