Born on this day in 1937: Ridley Scott
The legendary filmmaker is best known for one of his earliest films: Alien. It was Scott’s decision to make Ripley a female, thus creating one of the most badass female characters in cinematic history. He would later return to the Alien franchise with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.
Scott followed up Alien with several other genre classics, including Blade Runner, Legend, and Hannibal. He produced Stoker, Morgan, Phoenix Forgotten, and Blade Runner 2049, the follow-up to his original Blade Runner.
On the small screen, Scott stuck to producing, including vampire series The Hunger; the sci-fi miniseries The Andromeda Strain; Coma, the miniseries based on the Robin Cook novel; and the historically-set anthology series The Terror.
