Exclusive Clip from DO NOT REPLY at NYC Horror Film Fest This Week
The dangers of social media and online hookups are exposed in new horror-thriller Do Not Reply, which makes it Big Apple premiere at the New York City Horror Film Festival this week (see feature lineup HERE). Dread Central landed this exclusive clip from Do Not Reply (below) co-written and co-directed by son-father filmmaking duo Daniel and Walt Woltosz.
According to the directors, Do Not Reply is a cautionary tale of real-life headlines and issues of abductions, date rape drugging and sexual assaults happening each and every day in the digital dating world. The movie stars Amanda Arcuri (Degrassi: The Next Generation) and Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga, Dread). The independent film won two awards and received five nominations, including Best Picture and Director, at the Orlando Film Festival in October.
Do Not Reply centers on Chelsea (Arcuri), an introverted teen who falls prey to a handsome young man named Brad (Rathbone). Texting leads to phone calls and she agrees to meet Brad—a social media predator and button-down psychopath—at a Halloween warehouse party. There, she is drugged and abducted and wakes up alone, chained and in a fortified house with other girls who Brad intends to kill in his virtual-reality-filmed murders.
“Do Not Reply was created to send an important message about social media abductions,” says Woltosz and son. “We hope to caution those who are considering meeting someone in person whom they met through the Internet, to encourage them to make sure the other person is who they say they are, and if in doubt, to not meet the person at all. The consequences can be deadly.”
