MORTAL KOMBAT Reboot Star Teases Bloody Battles
Producer James Wan and director Simon McQuoid’s live-action Mortal Kombat is currently shooting. Earlier today, The Raid: Redemption and The Night Comes for Us star Joe Taslim took to Twitter to praise the new film’s “beautifully written” Sub-Zero.
And today fellow Mortal Kombat star Lewis Tan also took to Twitter – this time to tease the film’s bloody final battle. Check out his tweet for yourself below!
On top of Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, this reboot’s cast includes Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion. Lewis Tan plays an undisclosed lead character.
This reboot is said to center on a male protagonist who becomes drawn into the interdimensional tournament and begins to realize his true potential as a result.
While that’s not much to go on, the synopsis for the 1995 adaptation may shed a bit more light on what to (possibly) expect. It goes like this: Lord Rayden handpicks three martial artists – federal agent Sonya Blade, Shaolin monk Lui Kang, and action movie sensation Johnny Cage – and mentors them. After intense training, Rayden transports the trio to Outworld, the site of an inter-dimensional fighting tournament. There, the three humans must defeat the demonic warriors of the evil Shang Sung – or allow Sung to take over the Earth.
Mortal Kombat marks award-winning commercial director Simon McQuoid’s feature directorial debut. He’s working from a screenplay written by Greg Russo. James Wan and Todd Garner are producing with Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear, and Sean Robins serving as executive producers. The flick will be unleashed on March 5, 2021.
