Amick is best known for her role as Shelly Johnson in Twin Peaks, a role which she returned to for Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and Twin Peaks: The Return. In Twin Peaks, Shelly dropped out of high school to marry Leo, a trucker, who began abusing her shortly after they married. She began an affair with Bobby Briggs, who was Laura Palmer’s boyfriend, and the pair eventually married, had a daughter, and divorced.
Amick has been a regular face on television, appearing in multiple made-for-TV movies, including Tobe Hooper’s I’m Dangerous Tonight, in which she makes a dress out of a cursed cloak and becomes a remorseless killer. Other genre TV roles include The Witches of East End and American Horror Story: Hotel. She currently plays Betty’s mom on Riverdale. Her character name? Alice Cooper.
On the big screen, in addition to Fire Walk With Me, Amick appeared in The Borrowers, about an alien serial killer forced to live amongst humans; Priest, about an unending war between humans and vampires; and Sleepwalkers, the first Stephen King project written directly for the screen.
