This Day in Horror: Happy Birthday Danny Lloyd
Born on this day in 1973: Danny Lloyd
Lloyd’s first and only theatrical role was as Danny Torrance in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. He was five years old in that film, and other than a small role in a made-for-TV movie, he never acted again. It wasn’t for any nefarious reason: he got tired of losing parts and stopped trying around age fourteen.
Kubrick shot Lloyd’s scenes so that he didn’t know they were filming a horror movie; he just thought it was a movie about a family living in a hotel. Between takes, Lloyd remembers playing with the twins, and riding his tricycle up and down the halls. “To be able to ride your bike inside was this great thing,” he told the New York Daily News in 2013.
Today, Lloyd is a biology teacher at a community college. He is married with children, and has a cameo in Mike Flanagan’s follow-up, Doctor Sleep.
