KNIVES OUT 2 in the Works
Looper and The Last Jedi writer-director Rian Johnson’s killer murder-mystery Knives Out has grossed nearly $250 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. And today we’ve learned from THR that Johnson is already working on a follow-up, hoping to craft a new franchise.
The sequel will be centered on Daniel Craig’s Southern detective investigating a new case.
Johnson wants to make Knives Out 2 quickly – as in next year – and while Lionsgate has not officially greenlit the sequel, Johnson’s producing partner Ram Bergman revealed Craig is eager to return, saying, “Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more.”
Check out the script HERE.
The film begins when renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey dies just after his 85th birthday and the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc arrives at his estate to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Thrombey’s untimely demise.
It features a – no pun intended – killer cast including Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, Chris Evans as Hugh Ransom Drysdale, Ana de Armas as Marta Cabrera, Jamie Lee Curtis as Linda Drysdale, Michael Shannon as Walter “Walt” Thrombey, Don Johnson as Richard Drysdale, Toni Collette as Joni Thrombey, Lakeith Stanfield as Detective Lieutenant Elliot, Katherine Langford as Meg Thrombey, Jaeden Martell as Jacob Thrombey, and Christopher Plummer as Harlan Thrombey.
Knives Out is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Johnson along with Ram Bergman. Lionsgate released it back on November 27, 2019.
The film received three nominations at the 77th Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture, Best Actor for Craig, and Best Actress for de Armas. Have you seen it yet? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram!
