The movie and book center on an unpopular nerd who buys a 1958 Plymouth Fury, which he names Christine, and develops an unhealthy obsession with the car, to the alarm of his jock friend. After a bully defaces Christine, the auto restores itself to perfect condition and begins killing off people. Determined to stop the deaths, the nerd decides to destroy Christine.
Christine was directed by John Carpenter from a screenplay by Bill Phillips based on the novel by Stephen King. Richard Kobritz and Larry J. Franco produced. It stars Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, and Harry Dean Stanton. Columbia released it on December 9, 1983.
