Netflix Puts MINDHUNTER S3 on Indefinite Hold; Cast Released From Contracts
Today we’re hearing via TV Line that the third season of David Fincher’s Mindhunter has been put on indefinite hold by Netflix and the main cast Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv have been released from their contracts.
But the show has not been canceled.
Netflix rep said in a statement: “David is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death, and Robots. He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.“

Mindhunter shows us that catching a criminal often requires the authorities to get inside the villain’s mind to figure out how he thinks. That’s the job of FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench. They attempt to understand and catch serial killers by studying their damaged psyches. Along the way, the agents pioneer the development of modern serial-killer profiling.
Serial killers the show sported include Cameron Britton as Ed Kemper, Happy Anderson as Jerry Brudos, Sonny Valicenti as Dennis Rader, Sam Strike as Montie Rissell, Jack Erdie as Richard Speck, Oliver Cooper as David Berkowitz, Robert Aramayo as Elmer Wayne Henley, Jr., Michael Filipowich as William “Junior” Pierce, Corey Allen as William Henry Hance, Morgan Kelly as Paul Bateson, with Christopher Backus as Tex Watson, and Damon Herriman as Charles Manson.
The crime drama has a strong pedigree behind the camera, with Oscar-nominated director David Fincher and Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron among the show’s executive producers.
