This Company Makes Sea Monsters Come Alive in Your Teacup
If that headline alone didn’t scare you off, prepare to be either delighted or skeeved out of your skull… your results may vary.
A few years ago, Japanese boutique company Ocean Teabag decided to break free from decades of traditional packaging and team up with another small company, Village Vanguard (which specializes in quirky gifts and foods) to design a line of specialty tea bags in animal shapes.
Their sea-themed animal designs include dolphins, penguins, manta rays, octopus and squid, also includes some uncomfortably realistic isopods – you know, the same parasitic creatures who wiped out an entire seaside down in The Bay.
But that’s not even the creepiest part. When you pour hot water into your teacup, these paper creations appear to come alive.
I’ll let you process that while you examine these images… and if you come away thinking, “Gosh, ancient aquatic parasites should be part of my complete breakfast,” then you’re in luck… maybe. Since the pics went viral, demand for Ocean Teabag’s animal-themed products has increased – and in a recent interview with Bored Panda, the company revealed they only have ten employees. I’m guessing that’s about to change, if it hasn’t already.
In the same article, the company hinted at upcoming teabag designs which can move around on their own.
I’m more of a coffee person myself… probably a safer bet.
