This Day in Horror: Happy Birthday Fede Alvarez
Born on this day in 1978: director Fede Alvarez
Alvarez released his short film, “Ataque de Panico!” on YouTube in 2009. Within weeks, Sam Raimi’s Ghost House production company signed Alvarez to direct for them. Alvarez’s first feature film ended up being the remake of Evil Dead in 2013. He then directed an episode of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.
Next up, Alvarez directed Don’t Breathe, about a girl who breaks into a blind veteran’s house, looking for rumored cash, and discovering something much more ominous. Around this time, Alvarez said he had been approached to direct a Marvel film, but he declined it, fearing he wouldn’t have creative control over the film. Most recently, Alvarez directed The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a reboot of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo film series.
