URBAN LEGEND Reboot Announced
Screen Gems has hired What Keeps You Alive writer-director Colin Minihan to take the helm of their Urban Legend reboot. The flick is on the fast track with casting beginning shortly.
Deadline reports that Minihan will introduce an iconic new slasher for the digital age in a world where internet urban legends are born and move at a terrifying pace.

This reboot will be produced by Mike Medavoy (Black Swan) and Benjamin Anderson (The 33) and will center on a diverse cast of college students as they navigate a series of bizarre deaths that resemble urban legends linked to the darkest corners of social media.

The original flick centered on a university that is beset by a rash of gruesome murders that resemble old urban legends. When her friend Michelle (Natasha Gregson Wagner) is killed by someone hiding in her car, Natalie (Alicia Witt) begins to notice the pattern. Her suspicions grow stronger when her own roommate is strangled to death. Soon the quiet college campus is transformed into hunting grounds for a maniac, and Natalie struggles to find the killer and stop the bloodshed before she becomes the next victim.
Urban Legend was directed by Jamie Blanks and produced by Gina Matthews, Michael McDonnell, and Neal H. Moritz from a screenplay written by Silvio Horta. It starred Jared Leto with Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, Joshua Jackson, Loretta Devine, Tara Reid, Michael Rosenbaum, and Robert Englund. TriStar Pictures released it back on September 25, 1998.
