DAY OF THE DEAD Series Coming to SyFy in 2021

Deadline reports SyFy’s given a 10-episode straight-to-series order for a show based on Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead director George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead.

This new series comes to us from Cartel Entertainment, the production company behind Shudder’s hit adaptation of Romero’s Stephen King horror anthology classic Creepshow.

It is expected to air on Syfy in 2021.

Written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, this “intense” Day of the Dead series will fittingly center on six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion.

Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas will also serve as the series’ showrunners. Stan Spry, Jeff Holland, and Drew Brown executive produce with Robert Dudelson, James Dudelson, and Jordan Kizwani.

Romero’s Day of the Dead told the tale of a small team of scientists, civilians and trigger-happy soldiers who battle desperately to ensure the survival of the human race while trapped in a missile silo. But tension inside reaches a breaking point as the zombies are gathering outside.

It sports an 83% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Day of the Dead may arguably be the least haunting entry in George A. Romero’s undead trilogy, but it will give audiences’ plenty to chew on with its shocking gore and scathing view of society.
