The budget for Yeon Sang-ho’s Peninsula is about $16 million, which is double that of the original Train to Busan. Peninsula “happens in the same universe” as Train to Busan and is set four years after the first flick. In it, the Korean peninsula is devastated and Jung-seok, a former soldier who has managed to escape overseas, is given a mission to go back and unexpectedly meets up with survivors.
The original film is described as a harrowing zombie horror-thriller that follows a group of terrified passengers fighting their way through a countrywide viral outbreak while trapped on a suspicion-filled, blood-drenched bullet train ride to Busan, a southern resort city that has managed to hold off the zombie hordes… or so everyone hopes.
