The Dark Ride Coming Soon to Los Angeles: Bluebird Brasserie Presents Dirk’s Terror Tavern
LA’s Belgian-inspired brewpub in Sherman Oaks, Bluebird Brasserie, is set to go dark on Monday, March 9th for a few short weeks, with some exciting plans in the works for the property moving forward. The Artisanal Brewers Collective (ABC) team behind Bluebird Brasserie and life-long SoCal-born monster fanatic Dirk Rogers will bring to life Dirk’s Terror Tavern, an immersive dining experience and museum of monster mayhem taking over Bluebird Brasserie for an extended engagement.
The concept will feature Dirk Rogers’ expansive collection of ephemera, memorabilia, and stagecraft from his three decades working as a special effects artist in North Hollywood, as well as some of the pieces created for his world-famous Festival of Madness Halloween party he put on for 25 years. These pieces tell the story of horror, thriller, sci-fi, and genre cinema of the 20th century, and feature some real props used in movies from Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), to Alien (1979), to Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988); all of which will be paired with intentionally crafted food and award-winning beer that will be connected to some of the most iconic movies in cinema history. In a nutshell, Bluebird Brasserie will be mutated into a ghoulish doppelgänger – a brewery and restaurant filled with corpses, vampires, aliens, and beasts!
Now, with over 30 years of experience building, designing, and collecting practical special effects, Dirk and Soni will bring Dirk’s Terror Tavern, inspired by the 25-year tradition of throwing the wildest of underground parties featuring haunted mazes, a severed head gallery, horror movies props, and disturbing animatronics. With his unique, over-the-top theatrical esthetic, Rogers had Halloween lovers flying in from all over the world to attend this once a year spectacle, and Dirk’s Terror Tavern will continue this singular celebration of Halloween indefinitely.
Together with his partner Soni Benson, who brings a unique convergence of entertainment industry knowledge, management experience and theatricality to Dirk’s, and ABC CEO Tony Yanow, Dirk is teaming up with the forces behind Bluebird Brasserie to give a long-term home for this monster mash, combined with the collection of curiosities Dirk has amassed. Expected the unexpected!
