In just eight years actor AJ Bowen has become one of the more recognizable faces of independent horror and for good reason: With every performance Bowen delivers masterful work simmering with charisma and soul, making it hard to dislike even his most unlikable of characters.

Since making his genre debut in 2006’s Creepshow III, Bowen has gone on to co-star in many of the best independent horror films of the last decade including The Signal, The House of the Devil and A Horrible Way to Die as well as several buzzed about upcoming projects like You’re Next, Rites of Spring, Synchronicity and Among Friends.

In honor of his vast contributions to the independent genre world, Dread Central recently sat down with Bowen for an in-depth interview as part of our Indie Horror Month celebration, and for the first part of our video, we chat candidly with the actor about two of his earliest films- Creepshow III and The Signal, which put Bowen on the proverbial horror map back in 2008.

Check out the first installment with Bowen below, and make sure to check back here soon for Part Two of our video interview with Bowen discussing his experiences while making several other independent horror features since The Signal.
