Even ancient Greek gods going to war with each other in 3D proved no match for futuristic teenagers killing each in 2D. All other movies were again forced to fight to the death for table scraps as The Hunger Games‘ reign continued.
The Hunger Games once again ruled the box office with an iron fist in its second week with another $61 million, according to Box Office Mojo. In only ten day the futuristic PG-13 killfest is already on the verge of hitting $250 million domestically. The Hunger Games can also boast the rare trifecta of being the #1 movie, #1 book, and #1 music album in the country. You better believe Lionsgate execs are holding a trackjacker orgy tonight.
It’s fairly safe to say one of the only reasons Wrath of the Titans even exists is because of how well the Clash of the Titans remake did internationally. Warner Brothers and Legendary Films are going to have to rely on the rest of the world to make their money back seeing as how the 3D sequel opened to only $34 million. That’s barely half of the $61 million Clash of the Titans opened to back in ’08.
Next weekend the box office juggernaut that is The Hunger Games does battle with a returning box office juggernaut that hopes being converted into 3D won’t prove to be a box office iceberg. Forget Wrath of the Titans; next weekend The Hunger Games faces the wrath of the Titanic!
