Jason Momoa Teases DUNE Is Bigger Than AQUAMAN & GAME OF THRONES

The other day we passed along your first look at director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. And today star Jason Momoa teased that the film is bigger than Game of Thrones and James Wan’s Aquaman.

Momoa tells Ellen: “I’ve never seen anything like it, it was like shooting on another planet. Denis Villeneuve is shooting it, who made Sicario and Arrival. It was an honor to do that with him, and it’s a pretty stellar cast, I’ve never been a part of something so big.”

That’s a bold statement, Arthur Curry.

Momoa adds: “I get to play this character Duncan Idaho, who’s kind of a master swordsman who’s made the right-hand man to Duke Leto [Oscar Isaac]. He’s the first person to be sent out to land on Dune and that’s when I meet the character that Javier Bardem plays. I can’t believe I had a scene with Javier Bardem! It’s a pretty massive film and I get to be this little — he’s kind of the Han Solo-esque of the group. He’s this rogue warrior who protects Timothée Chalamet…

Based on the novel(s) by Frank Herbert, Dune takes place in the year 10191 and centers on a spice called melange, the most valuable substance known in the universe, and its only source, the desert planet Arrakis. Arrakis is awarded to Duke Leto Atreides over his enemies, the Harkonnens. The Harkonnens then violently seize back Arrakis and it is up to Paul, Leto’s son, to lead the natives of Arrakis in a battle for control of the planet and its spice.

It stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban, Zendaya as Chani, David Dastmalchian as Piter De Vries, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Charlotte Rampling as Gaius Helen Mohiam, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, and Chang Chen as Dr. Wellington Yueh.

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve and produced by Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Joe Caracciolo, Jr., and Villeneuve from a screenplay written by Eric Roth, Jon Spaihts, and Villeneuve based on the novel(s) by Frank Herbert. Warner Bros. unleashes this reboot on December 18, 2020.
