FANGORIA Adds New Theaters To “Virtual Theatrical” Run For Graphic Horror-Comedy PORNO
As previously announced, FANGORIA acquired world distribution rights to Porno, the horror-comedy from director Keola Racela and writers Matt Black and Laurence Vannicelli that had its world premiere last year at SXSW. Produced by Chris Cole and Sarah Seulki Oh for Evoke, Porno features a group of seemingly wholesome young movie theatre employees being tempted and terrorized by a sex demon. Clever, gruesome, and based around a number of truly unsavory practical FX gags (for evidence of this, gird your loins and look no further than #Page54 on horror Twitter), Porno has the kind of old-school horror sensibility audiences have come to expect from FANGORIA.
Give the trailer for Porno a spin embedded at the top of the article and read more about the movie below.
Synopsis:
When five teen employees at the local movie theater in a small Christian town discover a mysterious old film hidden in its basement, they unleash an alluring succubus who gives them a sex education…written in blood.
Screenings continue to be hosted online where, from a landing page directory of all participating theaters, viewers can select the theater they want to support, at which point they will be directed to a unique Vimeo On Demand page to purchase their “tickets.”
Many theaters participating in the virtual event were originally set to theatrically premiere Porno on Friday, April 10th, as scheduled before national shelter-in-place regulations were set by city governments. The pivot represents one of FANGORIA’s several moves to help horror fans keep in touch with the latest news and content from home. “We’re excited to have found a way to both support some of our favorite theaters through this difficult time and also provide a brand new theatrical and independent film experience to US audiences,” FANGORIA’s VP of Acquisitions & Distribution Brandon Hill reports. He adds, “Porno has just the right ingredients for folks in need of something entertaining, wild, and fun during these very serious times.”
Newly added for the second weekend are Row House Cinema (Pittsburgh, PA), North Park Theatre (Buffalo, NY), and Cleveland Cinemas (Cleveland, OH). Other participating theaters include Gateway Film Center (Columbus, OH), FilmBar (Phoenix, AZ), The Frida Cinema (Santa Ana, CA), PFS at The Roxy (Philadelphia, PA), Screenland Armour (Kansas City, MO). Plus 23 Alamo Drafthouse markets. Music Box Theatre (Chicago, IL) will join on 4/24 for the third and final weekend of the virtual theatrical run.
Tickets are $12 and each purchaser will have 48 hours to screen from the time of purchase. This virtual theatrical window is open until 5/1, as the movie will begin streaming on VOD on 5/8. To view all participating theaters and pre-order today, visit: https://www.fangoria.com/watchporno.
