This Day in Horror History: IDENTITY Was Released in 2003
The Sixth Sense made twist-endings near-essential in the 2000s and, in 2003 on this day, Identity delivered a whopper! Directed by James Mangold from a screenplay penned by Michael Cooney, Identity sports a powerhouse ensemble cast including John Cusack, Ray Liotta, Amanda Peet, John Hawkes, Alfred Molina, Clea DuVall, Jake Busey, and Pruitt Taylor Vince.
If it’s been a while, or if you’ve yet to experience Identity for yourself, check out the trailer and synopsis for Identity below.
Synopsis:
When a vicious storm breaks out in the Nevada desert, 10 people seek refuge in an isolated motel. At the same time, a serial killer (Pruitt Taylor Vince) under the care of psychiatrist Doctor Mallick (Alfred Molina) — who has just found the killer’s revealing journal — awaits execution for murdering a group of motel guests. When the storm-stranded travelers realize they are being killed off one by one, limo driver Ed Dakota (John Cusack) bids to stay alive and reveal the murderer’s identity.
Trivia:
“As I was going up the stair / I met a man who wasn’t there. / He wasn’t there again today / I wish, I wish he’d go away.” One character claims to have written this poem. It is really a poem titled ‘Antigonish’ by William Hughes Mearns. This poem was also turned into a popular song, giving it widespread attention. (Source)
Some location shooting occurred in Lancaster and other places in Los Angeles County. But the majority of the movie was shot on an enormous sound stage at Sony Studios in Culver City–the same studio that once housed the set for the Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz (1939). (Source)
