THE LOVED ONES (Best Anti-Prom Movie Ever) Now Streaming on Amazon Prime
While most high school Juniors and Seniors will have to forgo Prom in the Age of COVID-19, the best anti-Prom movie ever made recently arrived on Amazon Prime. The Loved Ones, directed by Sean Byrne, also happens to be one of the most under-appreciated horror movies of all time. Though successful in its native Australia when it was released in 2012 it never made a significant impact in the US (though Byrne made waves in 2015 with The Devil’s Candy).
Whether you’re looking for an anti-Prom movie or just a brutal R-rated horror flick that plays out like John Hughes directing Hostel, The Loved Ones can’t be beaten. Check out the trailer and synopsis below.
Synopsis:
When Brent turns down his classmate Lola’s invitation to the prom, she concocts a wildly violent plan for revenge.
The Loved Ones stars Xavier Samuel, Robin McLeavy, and John Brumpton.
The Loved Ones was the subject of the very first episode of Chronic Horror, released in late 2019. For a slightly warped take on the film, give the video a watch below.
Chronic Horror is a short form interview series that crosses the streams of the worlds of horror filmmaking, horror fandom, and cannabis culture. Join our host Josh Millican, a cannabis and horror expert, and his guests.
