GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO Series in the Works at Amazon

Amazon is developing a series based on Stieg Larsson’s Millenium books which Deadline reports will not be a sequel or continuation of the books or films but will place lead character Lisbeth Salander in today’s world with a wholly new setting, new characters, and a new story… but still called The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

No writer or lead actress is currently attached to the series.

Andy Harries will executive produce with Rob Bullock. Amazon Studios and Left Bank will produce in association with Sony Pictures Television.

David Fincher’s 2011 adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo starred Daniel Craig as journalist Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander.

It centered on disgraced financial reporter Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) finds a chance to redeem his honor after being hired by wealthy Swedish industrialist Henrik Vanger to solve the 40-year-old murder of Vanger’s niece, Harriet. Vanger believes that Harriet was killed by a member of his own family. Eventually joining Blomkvist on his dangerous quest for the truth is Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara), an unusual but ingenious investigator whose fragile trust is not easily won.
