He tells Discussing Film: “[It’s] moving forward and we have a giant art team cranking away on some incredible concept art. We’ve got the screenplay continuing to move forward, that will take the time that it takes and so that’s all good. Planet of the Apes is moving forward baby! Not only that, but we could actually be in virtual production relatively soon because it’s largely a CG movie.”

Wes Ball will write and direct with David Starke and Joe Hartwick Jr producing. The film is looking to begin shooting later this year, for a release sometime in 2022.

War for the Planet of the Apes centered on Caesar’s apes being forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by Woody Harrelson. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and Harrelson are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both of their species and the future of the planet.
