Watch Emma Dark’s Award-Winning Sci-Fi Horror Short SALIENT MINUS TEN On YouTube

After an incredible festival run, Emma Dark’s Salient Minus Ten (review) has now finally been released on YouTube, and we are proud to present this acclaimed short film in the player below.

Salient Minus Ten originally premiered at the London Horror Festival in Leicester Square, before going on to enjoy a healthy run at various festivals all around the world. The twelve and a half minute short combines elements of sci-fi and horror to tell the story of an ordinary man named Adam Harper (played by Alan Austen) whose life suddenly takes a turn for the extraordinary when he finds himself mysteriously transported to another world, where he is forced to compete in a sinister game of life or death organised by a woman played by Dark. The film also stars Samantha Oči, Chris Hampshire, and Beric Read.

Austen appeared in such films as Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, Flash Gordon, An American Werewolf in London, and Raiders of the Lost Ark, so he has clearly had a prolific career. And if you’re an avid gamer, you might also be interested to learn that the ray gun which he wields in Salient Minus Ten (pictured in the gallery below) is actually a reversed and modified Sega light gun. So, fans should see this as a fun homage.

Dark, on the other hand, previously wrote and directed the vampire-themed short Seize the Night, and the experimental art film Purgatoric. She also recently helmed the Japanese-inspired ghost story Goryō, which formed part of The Isolation Horrors anthology.

In addition to being on YouTube, you can also now purchase an autographed DVD of Salient Minus Ten from Dark’s official website. More details are included in the following press release.

Official Press Release: Award-winning Director Emma Dark’s Retro Sci-Fi Horror SALIENT MINUS TEN comes to DVD and Digital

Having recently completed a successful run on the film festival circuit, award-winning director Emma Dark’s cerebral, retro sci-fi/horror short SALIENT MINUS TEN now comes to DVD and Digital.

SALIENT MINUS TEN’s festival journey began in 2017 when it received a glitzy world premiere at Cineworld Leicester Square, London as part of The British Horror Film Festival, and went on to play at festivals including The Dark Side Magazine’s DarkFest, Starburst Magazine’s Media City Film Festival, Rue Morgue Magazine and Unstable Ground’s Little Terrors, Screenland Theatres and Downright Creepy’s Panic Fest, and many more!

The film picked up a number of awards and nominations during its festival run, including winning writer/director Emma Dark ‘Best Director’ at Starburst Magazine’s Media City Film Festival, and the ‘Albert Pyun Inspiration Award’ at The Yellow Fever Independent Film Festival in 2018.

Emma Dark commented: “After much anticipation I’m proud to be able to present SALIENT MINUS TEN to a wider audience on both DVD and digital following a successful festival run. The project has been a labour of love for me, and I’ve consistently been involved in the production in a much wider capacity than writer/director. I do hope people enjoy the film and I’d like to thank all my wonderful cast and crew for supporting my vision, and doing such a fantastic job of it.”

Autographed DVDs are available exclusively from Emma’s Etsy store (etsy.com/uk/shop/EmmaDarkOfficial), and come packaged as a BBFC 15 rated, two disc double bill presentation with Emma’s previous award-winning festival short, action/thriller SEIZE THE NIGHT.
