Ah, April, that special time of year known to horror fans and SHUDDER subscribers alike as Halfway to Halloween. This month, SHUDDER is bringing viewers a fearsome fistful of Lucio Fulci films. From The Beyond to the gritty streets of The New York Ripper, this April has your Fulci fix with six of his best.
This month’s lineup also features a great mix of legendary directors and new voices to discover. It includes films from such masters of horror as George A. Romero, Guillermo del Toro, splatter veteran Olaf Ittenbach, and makeup fx guru Tom Savini to the more contemporary Stephen Cognetti and Aislinn Clarke. Be sure not to miss Oscar-winner Alejandro Amenábar’s Tesis.
From the small-town vibes of the Halloween franchise to the remote Irish countryside of Fréwaka SHUDDER’s April 2025 schedule promises to jump from the campy and absurd of April Fool’s Day to the psychological Repulsion. This Halfway to Halloween celebration offers a terrifying treat for viewers, featuring frights from Fulci to folk horror with a deadly dose of slashers, cult classics, and haunted locales.
825 Forest Road
April 4th
Stephen’s Hell House LLC franchise has been a cult favorite for SHUDDER viewers and we’re excited to welcome him back home. 825 Forest Road is a twist on a haunted house tale that will stay with you long after the credits roll.

Synopsis:
Chuck Wilson is starting a new life after a family tragedy when he moves to the town of Ashland Falls with his wife Maria and little sister Elizabeth. But he quickly discovers that the town has a dark secret. The ghost of Helen Foster has terrorized residents for decades, since her own suicide back in the ‘40s. Finding Helen’s old home is key to ending the hauntings, but the address they have doesn’t match any of the town’s existing streets. When Chuck realizes his family might be in danger of Helen’s wrath, he takes it upon himself to locate 825 Forest Road before it’s too late.

Shadow of God

I don’t always get the same mileage from faith-based horror that religious folks likely do. I do dig religious horror films that deviate from the expected. And Michael Peterson’s latest film, Shadow of God, certainly excels in that conceit.

Joe’s too humble to remember, but Joe found this initial idea of the dead letter office. It’s a real-life thing. He came to me and he’s like, “Hey, this could be kind of cool for some kind of mystery film in the future.” So we started from there. This film became our list of things we wanted to do in a film. We love analog synthesizers. That’s something we’ve always tried to incorporate one way or the other in our films.

Fréwaka is stacked with horror conventions: the spooky house and its kooky resident, photographs with scratched-out faces, horned figures that lurk in the shadows, and the blurring of characters’ realities and their paranoid delusions. Where Clarke excels is imbuing these routine traits with localized, dagger-point specificity.

I feel like some YouTuber at some point is going to build out and do a seven-hour video that’s just all the lore of Frankie Freako. I know people have done The Void Explained, and I’m like, please explain it because there’s a lot of gaps I don’t have filled on that. That is really part of the fun for me. I like that it becomes this communal thing that everyone participates in, and once the movie’s out, it has a life of its own.
