This Day in Horror History: Happy Birthday, Karen Black!
On this day in horror history, Nashville, Five Easy Pieces, and Easy Rider actress Karen Black was born in Park Ridge, Illinois in 1939.
Black is perhaps best known around these parts for Dan Curtis’ Trilogy of Terror and Burnt Offerings as well as her role as Mother Firefly in Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses with Sid Haig and Sheri Moon Zombie.
As mentioned above, Black is best known for her roles in Robert Altman’s Nashville, Dennis Hopper’s Easy Rider, and Five Easy Pieces, a role that snagged a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars.
She also starred in Tobe Hooper’s Invaders from Mars, Larry Cohen’s It’s Alive III: Island of the Alive, and Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering.
Not to mention Airport 1975, The Great Gatsby, Francis Ford Coppola’s You’re a Big Boy Now, and Alfred Hitchcock’s final film, Family Plot.
She was as working as a playwright before her death from ampullary cancer in 2013.
