Convention News: WEEKEND OF HORRORS Returns to New York Area Summer 2021

Creation Entertainment today announced the return of the iconic fan event, Creation’s Weekend of Horrors, with its first fright-filled convention in the New York area, June 11th- 13th, at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center, Edison, NJ.

America’s premier horror convention, Weekend of Horrors ran for nearly 25 years (1985-2009) with horror luminary Tony Timpone overseeing its first iteration, setting a golden standard for immersive fan events in the horror genre. Every year, tens of thousands of devoted fright fans made the annual pilgrimage to the Weekend of Horrors, held in major cities across the country. The bloody best of genre talent from Quentin Tarantino, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Peter Jackson, George Romero and Dario Argento to Jack Nicholson, Vincent Price, Robert Englund and Stan Winston, all made live appearances.

“We’re excited to be working again with our friend Tony Timpone on the rebirth of the Weekend of Horrors tradition,” said Adam Malin, co-CEO of Creation Entertainment.   “All of us at Creation Entertainment have missed presenting these unique events that were the place for like-minded fans to gather, network, and meet and learn from the leaders in the field. With the prominence of the horror genre in entertainment today, we knew this was the opportune time for the event’s return. So many of our past guests have gone on to have distinguished careers and this has always been a source of pride for us all.”

Initial celebrity guests slated to appear on stage include Clive Barker (creator Hellraiser, Nightbreed, Candyman); Mick Garris (director The Stand, Nightmare Cinema, Sleepwalkers); Don Mancini (creator of the Chucky franchise and upcoming Syfy series spinoff); Greg Nicotero (producer/director/FX chief of The Walking Dead and Creepshow TV series); Sean Cunningham (director of Friday the 13th and producer of Last House on the Left, House, Freddy vs Jason); and Tom Savini (groundbreaking special make-up effects in Friday the 13th and Dawn of the Dead); and new horror celebrities Norman Reedus (star of The Walking Dead), Chandler Riggs (former actor of The Walking Dead), and David Harbour (actor in Stranger Things, Hellboy). Many more guests to be announced.

The 1980’s Slasher Directors Panel will feature for the first time together William Lustig (Maniac, Maniac Cop), Armand Mastroianni (He Know You’re Alone), Mark Rosman (House on Sorority Row), John McNaughton (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) Gary Sherman (Dead & Buried), Joseph Zito (The Prowler, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter) and Robert Hiltzik (Sleepaway Camp). Other cast and crew panels in the works include more special cast from The Walking Dead, and a Friday the 13th (1980) Reunion Panel, with many more to be added.

“For the past ten years, fans have been asking me, ‘When is the Weekend of Horrors coming back?’ I finally have an answer for them, and it will be bigger and better than ever,” former FANGORIA Editor-in-Chief Tony Timpone enthuses. “Not only are we ‘getting the band back together,’ but we’re taking it to a whole new level,” he promises. Timpone, who served as the Master of Ceremonies at Weekend of Horrors throughout its first term, will take an active role in reinvigorating the brand.

Besides stage appearances, extra activities to see and do will include gruesome and shocking cosplay, autograph signings, photo ops, a dealers room filled with horror film/TV merchandise and collectibles, and much more!
