A24 Releases Screenplay Book Celebrating HEREDITARY with New Writing by Ari Aster & Bong Joon Ho
Today, A24 has released its newest screenplay book, celebrating Hereditary, the debut feature film by Midsommar writer-director Ari Aster, available to purchase exclusively at shop.a24films.com.
Synopsis:
When the matriarch of the Graham family passes away, her daughter and grandchildren begin to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry, trying to outrun the sinister fate they have inherited.

A collectible object for the home and a primer for aspiring filmmakers, the book features a foreword by Bong Joon Ho, Academy Award-winning director of Parasite (2019), and a new essay by Leslie Jamison, author of The Empathy Exams (2014). Along with the full Hereditary screenplay, the book also includes Ari Aster’s detailed breakdown of the film’s harrowing family séance scene, revealing his method of writing thorough shot lists before each film.
This is the fourth screenplay book released by A24’s growing publishing arm, A24 BOOKS, which so far includes Alex Garland’s Ex Machina, Robert Eggers’ The Witch, and Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight. Every book elevates and amplifies each filmmaker’s creative vision, enhanced by original writing courtesy of contemporary voices in film, literature, music, science, and more.
