RIP Wilford Brimley: THE THING/COCOON Actor Has Passed Away at 85

Wilford Brimley certainly wasn’t best known as a horror actor, but his turn as Dr. Blair in John Carpenter’s The Thing made him something of a genre icon. Today brings word that Brimley has passed away at the age of 85. The New York Times reports:
“He had been sick for two months with a kidney ailment, said his agent, Lynda Bensky.”
Other notable movies in Brimley’s filmography include Cocoon, The Natural, and The Firm. He was also a talented jazz singer who has recorded several albums and played successful club engagements. Before becoming an actor, Brimley was a rodeo rider.
