CANDYMAN Director Nia DaCosta Chosen to Helm Disney/Marvel’s CAPTAIN MARVEL 2

Producer Jordan Peele and director Nia DaCosta’s Candyman will finally hit October 16. And today we hear DaCosta (Little Woods) has been chosen to direct Brie Larson in Disney/Marvel’s Captain Marvel 2.

Congrats! This is huge news considering this move makes DaCosta the first black female chosen to direct a movie set in the MCU.

No plot details have been announced as of yet, but we do know Megan McDonnell (WandaVision) will write the script. As always, Kevin Feige produces. Captain Marvel 2 is scheduled to be released on July 8, 2022.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson, It’s Kind of a Funny Story) directed the original Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

Captain Marvel centers on an extraterrestrial warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. Living on Earth in 1995, she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. With help from Nick Fury, Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls.

Rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and brief suggestive language, it sports a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Packed with action, humor, and visual thrills, Captain Marvel introduces the MCU’s latest hero with an origin story that makes effective use of the franchise’s signature formula.
