This Day in Horror History: ANGUS SCRIMM Was Born in 1926
On this day in horror history, Angus Scrimm (aka Lawrence Rory Guy) was born in Kansas City, Kansas in 1926.
Scrimm is best known around these parts for his role as The Tall Man in the Phantasm franchise including Phantasm, Phantasm II, Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead, Phantasm IV: Oblivion, and Phantasm: Ravager.
Scrimm stood around 6 feet 4 inches. Even still, to appear taller playing the Tall Man, he wore suits that were too small and platform shoes.
He graduated from USC and was originally a journalist for TV Guide, Cinema Magazine, the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, and more. He also worked for Capitol Records, writing liner notes for artists such as Frank Sinatra and the Beatles. His liner notes won him a Grammy. True story.
On top of the Phantasm franchise, Scrimm is also known for his roles in such cult classics as Chopping Mall, Wishmaster, Subspecies, I Sell The Dead, John Dies at the End, and the Masters of Horror episode Incident On and Off a Mountain Road directed by, you guessed it, Don Coscarelli.
Scrimm died of prostate cancer at the age of 89 in Tarzana, Los Angeles, California on January 9, 2016. Rest in peace, sir. Rest in peace.
