Recently members of the press were invited to a bone-chilling event at LA’s infamous Linda Vista Hospital to explore the realities of exorcism as revealed in the upcoming DVD release of the film The Devil Inside (Blu-ray/DVD review here).
While there we got much more than we bargained for.
Originally opened in 1904 by the Santa Fe Railroad, the once heralded hospital fell into disrepair by the 1980s and became known for its high number of patient deaths. Now long-abandoned and rife with tales of terrifying happenings throughout the decades, the hospital provided an ideal setting for a foray into the world beyond what we see…
Attending press learned about the hospital’s chilling manifestations from members of the “Boyle Heights Paranormal Project” and spoke with cast members from the film Suzan Crowley (“Maria Rossi”) and Bonnie Morgan (“Rosa”) as well as Maja D’Aoust, the White Witch of Los Angeles.
When the tour began, it became apparent that the non-supernatural powers-that-be had set a portion of the hospital up as a kind of The Devil Inside themed haunted attraction complete with screaming, whispering, jump scares, and even actual re-enactments from the film. This was totally cool and all, and you can see many pictures and videos of the event below.
The real fun for us, however, began afterwards. When we were pretty much left to our own devices. Jon Condit and I quickly separated from the pack and headed out on our own, dragging along one of the guides to show us the goods. Let me put it to you like this: Linda Vista Hospital is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. To call the place creepy is a bit of an understatement. Given the paranormal reputation of the location, we set out to do a little ghost hunting of our own. We took a myriad of photos but unfortunately didn’t capture a damned thing. However, thanks to our digital recorder we did come back with an EVP.
Let us be clear… we are not saying that what you’re about to hear is the voice of a long dead spirit. But it is there and completely unexplained. The room we conducted our EVP session in was extremely quiet and out of the way. What makes the following recording compelling is that it appears to be an intelligent response to one of our questions.
Listen here!
A couple of seconds after I ask, “What is your name?”, you can hear what sounds like a voice whispering the answer “Tim” or possibly “Kim”. Or maybe it’s something else. Tell us what you hear in the comments section below.
When it came time to leave, attendees were blessed by a priest before walking out the door. Check out the goods below.
