Robert Englund’s 976-EVIL Coming To Blu-ray In The UK This October
Despite being primarily known as an actor, Freddy Krueger star Robert Englund also tried his hand at directing with the 1988 horror 976-EVIL. And while the film hardly set the box office alight when it was released in cinemas by New Line, it has still developed a small cult following over the years. Which is why we are so happy to learn that it will finally be released on Blu-ray in the UK later this year, courtesy of Eureka Entertainment.
Co-written by future Oscar-winner Brian Helgeland, 976-EVIL focuses on a high school loser named Hoax, who suddenly finds all his wildest fantasies coming true after he begins using a demonic phone line to tell his horoscope. But all good things come at a price, and Hoax soon finds himself being taken over by the demonic forces controlling the phone line, which were actually responsible for his sudden string of good fortune. Hoax was played by Stephen Geoffreys, with the supporting cast including Patrick O’Bryan, Maria Rubell, Jim Metzler, and Sandy Dennis.
The Blu-ray will feature the 105 minute cut of 976-EVIL, which runs for thirteen minutes longer than the theatrical version, and it will contain a wealth of bonus material. This will include a brand new interview with make-up artist Howard Berger, who went on to work on The Walking Dead. It will be available on October 19, so horror fans living in the UK might want to mark that date in their calendars. The first two-thousand copies will also include a limited edition slipcase cover and a physical booklet, so you won’t want to miss out.
