Dread Central recently had the opportunity to set down and chat with Jimmy Urine, who composed all of the music found in the boss battles, including the voice of punk boss Zed, of Lollipop Chainsaw.
Lollipop Chainsaw will release on June 12th, and while Juilet is slashing through boss fights, Jimmy’s insane music will accompany every blood-spewing moment!
The electrifying video game soundtrack of Lollipop Chainsaw will feature music by Jimmy Euringer (a.k.a. Little Jimmy Urine). Jimmy is the frontman, songwriter and programmer for the band Mindless Self Indulgence. He is also part of the duo known as The Left Rights. Urine composed all the music found in the boss battles, including voicing Zed, the punk boss, of Lollipop Chainsaw, developed by SUDA 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture. Lollipop Chainsaw will be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
AMANDA: Writer/director James Gunn—who is well known for his work in films such as Dawn of the Dead and Slither—created the story for upcoming game Lollipop Chainsaw. What was it like working with him on the game, and were you a fan of his work before signing on for the game?
JIMMY: James is a friend of mine and I love his films …I’m a big fan of Slither and Super is hilarious. It was also really easy to work with him and his script because the stuff he wrote for Zed sounded like what I say everyday–so I just came in and did me and everyone dug it.
AMANDA: In Lollipop Chainsaw, you have composed all of the boss battle tracks that we’ll hear in the game. Where do you draw your inspiration to come up with these songs?
JIMMY: Well considering this was such a crazy gonzo type game, me and my style of music fit right in. I was just myself, but I took the zombie bosses musical style as a starting point, then I would screw it up till it sounded more me.
AMANDA: You also did voiceover work for the punk boss Zed in Lollipop Chainsaw. What was that experience like, and was this the first time you provided voiceover work in games or films?
JIMMY: I have done other VO work, but this was my first voice over for a video game and it was fun as hell. It is as fun as you imagine it to be in your dreams, and then on top of all that fun, they freaking pay you money.
AMANDA: Having completed plenty of work on Lollipop Chainsaw, I’m sure you’ve gotten a chance to play some of the game by now. What were your thoughts on the game, and what can gamers look forward to when the game releases on June 12, 2012?
JIMMY: I have played most of the game and it’s great. It’s fun to chop tons of zombies up, but I really love that there is as much rainbows and sparkles as buckets of blood. Lots of cool music sexy innuendos and mini games–also my wife Chantal loves to play the game so she can kill me over and over and over–and I’m sure you will, too.
AMANDA: You’re obviously a busy man, so do you have any other upcoming projects you would like to tell us about?
JIMMY: We will be touring the UK, France, Germany, Netherlands and for the first time Russia which is going to be super fun as hell… it’s going to be like Red Dawn. You can check out all the dates at the Mindless Self Indulgencewebsite. And as we speak I am writing a new record…it’s going to be a rock opera based on this interview!
