THE CONJURING Writers Had ‘Crazy Story’ For HOUSE OF WAX Prequel

One of the top underappreciated flicks out there is the 2005 reboot of House of Wax with Elisha Cuthbert. And today, the reboot’s writers Chad and Carey W. Hayes (The Conjuring) revealed they had talks about developing a potential prequel.

Carey tells ComicBook.com: “We did float the idea of a prequel, after it [came out], but the studio’s response is it didn’t do any big numbers at the box office. But if we approached it now, it could be a whole different story because of the fan base. It’s like, the theater became full of people: how? You know? I mean, it’s a crazy story.”

Chad adds: “What we find so interesting is we do a lot of film festivals and do panels at film festivals and sometimes workshops and things. And the fan base that comes up to talk about that movie, in particular, is fantastic. And so, it’s like, ‘You still want to talk about that movie? That’s awesome.’ It’s just so, so great.”

Rated R for horror violence, some sexual content, and language, the reboot told the tale of a gang of friends who wind up with a flat tire in a ghost town. They are forced to seek help in the only place open: the local wax museum. Once inside the spooky abandoned building, they find things are not quite what they seem…

The film sports a 26% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Bearing little resemblance to the 1953 original, House of Wax is a formulaic but better-than-average teen slasher flick.
