ROBOCOP TV Series in the Works at MGM
Our friends over at Movie Hole just landed one hell of an exclusive: There’s a RoboCop TV Series in the works at MGM, one that will focus on a young Dick Jones (played by Ronny Cox in the original RoboCop movie, released in 1987). The revelations came as part of an interview with RoboCop Returns scribe Ed Neumeier.
“I’m working at MGM on it” Neumeier told Movie Hole. “It has all the cool stuff about RoboCop except no RoboCop.”
He elaborates:
“So we’ve been talking about it and I think we have an interesting story. It’s fun to work with a younger version of the Dick Jones we meet in RoboCop. He’s an actualized corporate predator [in the move] but nobody necessarily starts out being the bad guy. So it’s going to be about the evolution of Richard Jones to Dick Jones, the story of OCP and how the world moves into the future, how the corporate world behaves.”
You can read the interview in its entirity, HERE.
If it’s been a while, check out the trailer and synopsis for the original RoboCop below.
Synopsis:
In a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company leads street cop Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith) so they can use his body to support their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company’s nefarious plans, he turns on his masters.
