THE OMEN Prequel In Production at Disney?
Disney is trying to figure out how to handle the R-rated franchises they’ve acquired from 20th Century Fox. But today, The Conjuring screenwriters Chad and Carey W. Hayes say their planned prequel to The Omen may be going into production.
The brothers tell ComicBook.com: “We did the prequel to The Omen, which is also sitting over at Fox, that, rumor has it, that it is going into production. So we’ll see what happens. We get to tell you where Damien came from. It was really fun.”
The original film tells the tale of an American diplomat Robert (Gregory Peck) who adopts Damien (Harvey Stephens) when his wife, Katherine (Lee Remick), delivers a stillborn child. After Damien’s nanny hangs herself, Father Brennan (Patrick Troughton) warns Robert that Damien will kill Katherine’s unborn child. Robert then investigates Damien’s background and realizes he may be the Antichrist.
The film sports an 86% rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: The Omen eschews an excess of gore in favor of ramping up the suspense — and creates an enduring, dread-soaked horror classic along the way.
The Omen was directed by Richard Donner from a screenplay written by David Seltzer. It starred Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, David Warner, Harvey Spencer Stephens, Billie Whitelaw, Patrick Troughton, Martin Benson, and Leo McKern.
