This Day in Horror History: EDEN LAKE Was Released in 2008

In the mid-2000s, “Extreme” French filmmakers were producing horror flicks with nihilistic brutality that eclipsed anything else produced in Europe and America. But in 2008, James Watkins’ Eden Lake proved the UK was still fertile ground for shocking, unsettling, gut-wrenching horror.

Eden Lake is a survival horror, one where hopes for a peaceful, romantic vacation are dashed by an intensely escalating conflict with local youths. If it’s been a while, or if you’ve yet to experience Eden Lake for yourself, give the trailer and synopsis a spin below.

Synopsis:
A young couple on a romantic weekend break at a remote lakehouse, are terrorized by a group of vicious delinquents.

Eden Lake stars Kelly Reilly, Michael Fassbender, and Tara Ellis.
