Meet President Gorgar in “Shock the Vote” PSA
Shock the Vote ATX has partnered with award-winning horror director Chris McInroy (Bad Guy #2, Death Metal, We Summoned a Demon) to discuss the monstrous consequences of voter apathy. Gorgar, a horror-comedy PSA produced by Kris Phipps of Renegade Studios and Garth Manor, tells the story of two men who throw away their chance to vote in favor of couch-surfing and eating sandwiches. The results end up being more horrifying than they could imagine.
“When Kris Phipps of Garth Manor Cinema asked if I wanted to make a horror-themed voting PSA for Shock the Vote ATX I knew I had to do it,” says McInroy. “They are a stellar organization and voting is more important than ever this year. I wanted to make something fun, quick and in my style that will hopefully get some eyeballs on it and encourage people to get out and vote. Everyone came together to support the cause and make this thing, it was magical. Don’t be like the dudes in this short, make your voice heard. Nobody wants a Gorgar as president. Oh, and I apologize to people who don’t like gore in their PSAs.”
Shock the Vote ATX is an inclusive, nonpartisan, community-building program aimed at supporting local nonprofits, highlighting local businesses and artists with a six-week calendar of events, and increasing voter turnout. The virtual events will give the Austin community a way to stay safe and united while being physically distanced. The program kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 22, National Voter Registration Day, with Rock Your Reg: Live, a streaming event to support Texas voter registration hosted by MOVE Texas.
Shock the Vote ATX funds raised will benefit the following nonprofit groups: Austin Creative Alliance, Austin Justice Coalition, Between the Pages, Out Youth, Texas Appleseed, and The SAFE Alliance. Eighty percent of all funds raised will be donated to the six nonprofit organizations.
