The battle for roles in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has begun to heat up as all eyes are on one of two girls to land the key role of “Johanna Mason.” Read on for the latest on who the choices are. Dig it!
The Playlist is reporting that Mia Wasikowska (Stoker, Alice in Wonderland) and Zoe Aggeliki (R.I.P.D.) are in the mix for the role. The character becomes a strong ally with Katniss and Peeta during the 75th Hunger Games but has a testy relationship with Katniss, who likens her to an older sister who hates you. She’s a fierce competitor who has no family and friends left in District 7, from where she hails, with her weapon of choice being an axe.
The sequel to the 2008 bestseller by Suzanne Collins continues the story of Katniss Everdeen and the fictional, futuristic nation of Panem. Due to the events of the previous novel, a rebellion against the ruling Capitol has begun, and Katniss and fellow tribute Peeta are forced to return to the arena in a special edition of The Hunger Games.
Francis Lawrence will direct the sequel for Lionsgate, who is aiming for a November 2013 release.
