Insane Trailer For Chinese Giant Monster Movie BIG OCTOPUS
Fans of giant monster movies will love the trailer for the new Chinese film Big Octopus, which can be viewed in the player below. The film was directed by Xiang Huaxiang, and it looks absolutely crazy.
As its title suggests, Big Octopus focuses on a giant octopus which rises from the depths to terrorise humanity. You might also have guessed from the title that this is clearly not a film which is going to take itself too seriously, which is also evident from the goofy trailer. As well as showing the titular cephalopod wreaking havoc on civilization, the trailer also features shootouts, soldiers yelling at each other, martial arts sequences with exaggerated CGI stunts, and a giant goddamn shark leaping out of the water. Subtly be damned.
We also can’t help but feel that the horrific design of the giant octopus, which you can view clearly in the poster, was inspired by Cthulhu. But don’t worry, because a cute baby octopus also appears in the trailer to even things out. We’re guessing the adult monster wants to rescue its child, which is being held in captivity by humans.
While some of the trailer was spoken in English, most of it was in Chinese. As there is currently no official translation, the subtitled version of the trailer embedded below was provided by YouTuber The Arty Dans, who clearly did a good job. Anyway, we know that Big Octopus stars Liu Mu, Zhao Qian, and Zhang Haocheng, and that it was broadcast on Chinese television earlier this year. There’s no word on an international release, but this is one monster movie we would love to rise on US shores.
