Dark Shadows opened this past May to box office indifference and wildly mixed reactions. The Tim Burton/Johnny Depp comedic updating of the classic Gothic 1960’s soap opera will get a second chance at life on DVD and Blu-ray this October.
Dark Shadows failed to cast much of a shadow at the box office despite a stellar cast consisting of Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Chloe Grace Moretz, Jonny Lee Miller, and Christopher Lee. It remains a source of debate as to whether its under-performance was due to the audience not being familiar with the decades-old source material, being turned off by the quirky horror comedy sold in the trailers, having grown tired of Johnny Depp’s white-faced shtick, or simply a matter of it being the first of many movies to get lost in the wake of The Avengers‘ box office tsunami. Word of mouth certainly did not seem to help.
You’ll get to judge for yourself on October 2nd when Warner Brothers Home Entertainment releases Dark Shadows to DVD and Blu-ray, according to blu-ray.com. No artwork or disc specs have been announced yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as they are revealed.
