Nightmares Film Festival: Masquerade – Day Four
Day Four of my NFF: Masquerade journey was packed to the brim with viewings of short film blocks. Every single one had at least one short that I loved, if not multiple. Short film curation is always great at Nightmares Film Festival, but this year’s lineup is perhaps their strongest to date.
The biggest standouts for me were the ’80s cosmic monster flick The Relic, the delicious comeuppance of Stuck, the “why isn’t this already a BBC series” British fantasy sci-fi/fantasy offering Porcelain, the Gilliam-esque The Appointment, the Lansdale-ish A Strange Calm, and a pair of tech-savvy thrillers in the form of Hammurabi and Pelican Milkshake.
Feature-wise, the noir-ish midnight movie selection Night Boat was also very striking. Of course, Saturday also contained the fest’s virtual awards ceremony. So, without further adieu, here are Nightmares Film Festival’s award winners for 2020…
